@MattZeitlin:

what's the origin and function of people (in my experience often academics but not always) saying "right?" after almost every sentence

They're onto me. It's not enough for Claude to eviscerate me and call me a weak, pathetic and unsure of himself loser who reflexively invokes the hivemind at the end of every sentence by ending them with ", right?", so now they're doing it on X too. In my defense, on further reflection, I'm pretty sure this was caused by Portuguese's "né," which is short for "não é?" which is literally "isn't it?" Essentially ", right?" in another form. The problem is that né flows off the tongue very easily, you can add it anywhere, all the time, né here, né there, it doesn't even register when it's said. So really it's Big Portuguese's fault yet again. First they develop gente and make it female coded to give you a false sense of security, then they develop and flood it everywhere, that's how they get you, you can't escape it, Big Portuguese wants you to take hormones and transition, it's over.
