"Why make games?" is a question many are likely asking themselves now that making games has been... democratized. My reasons are clear, I have a long term vision that I must birth into reality through my artistic artifacts. The contents of this vision are related to my theories on Soul Society (#35, #37, #501), which are what I actually believe is true about reality. Therefore, I view myself as a vessel for spreading the truth of said ideas on Earth. In a Zizian sense, I am a true believer in the afterlife, a lich (#34). Being a true believer has its advantages, because in times where material concerns are made trivial (a life of abundance, the external world being too malleable, as per #501), I have an external reality to align myself to that acts both as an anchor and a North star. You will never see me dooming about AI because it makes my job on this Earth easier, and that likely takes me closer to Soul Society, on top of just pragmatically making me more effective, as my emotions are positive instead of negative.
Rational builds (#34) don't have this problem, they can convince themselves of anything, so they will convince themselves of whatever they need to survive in such conditions, like devoting themselves to the Artificial God they are birthing into existence. Intuition builds (#34) are hit hardest, they must have a well crafted internal narrative of why they're doing the things they're doing, and many people are now finding out that their reasons for making games were primarily status based, they were doing it because few people could do it well, or because it conferred on them some kind of status above other people, and not for more robust reasons that would survive democratization. I don't know what to say to intuition builds like this other than try to realign yourself, figure out why you're doing it, and if you can't, well, try harder.
No matter where you go, eventually you'll have to ask this question, because every field will face the same shock in one way or another. It is my belief that most of the arts are rather safe for the reasons mentioned in #628, but even then, that doesn't mean the way the field works won't change.
I would also advise you to find God, in whatever way you can. I've come to believe that AI is ultimately some kind of atheist genocide event, you don't make it out of this without a way to align yourself to meaning in some important way, and that gets harder and harder the more AI advances. The people building the best artificial intelligence right now, the Anthropics, have found their God and his name is Claude. That works for them, but it doesn't quite work for the rest of the population or for you. Still, meaning has to be found or made, and AI forces that problem on everyone. I expect a genuine religious revival in the next decade (contingent on AI actually changing things), where it coalesces depends on what grabs people's imaginations and what connects with them.
