I'm adding items to Horse Game and I was thinking about how before I test if the game is actually fun beyond the initial fun the concept itself carries, I'll have added around 150 items, and they're all 100% finished, so it's quite a bit of work to gamble on a game that might not be fun. But ultimately it's not really a gamble, because even if it isn't fun, I have already done more work designing the effects (both visual and aural) for those items than I have for any other game in the emoji style, which means I can reuse those effects in other games of the same style rather well. There's also the fact that this type of build-heavy game carrying this kind of risk, where they're only fun after there are 200 or 300 or so items, is part of the value they have, and so training myself on this is what I should be doing, as these are the kinds of games I want to always make. In the end, no work is ever wasted.
