It does seem Backrooms has higher memetic payload and will suffuse itself into the culture more successfully, more than I assumed back here, but it's still up in the air which of the two will last longer I think. It is interesting though how well Backrooms has held up memetically, for, in retrospect, an obvious reason. The genre of these tweets is "reuse content from the video/game/whatever to say what you wanted to say but funny because the reversal/reuse is funny itself." You can then guess which movies/games will achieve this best by imagining how many moments the source material has that can be taken out of context in such a way. Obsession has a few, but mainly her funny sad face at the party that gets reused all the time, but even that particular reuse is too tied to its context, and the way it's used online is usually for gender war content, whereas both Backrooms examples here (and there are many more) are genuinely just random shit.
