# Environment direction studies / Round 01

Eight concept proposals compare the waterside shop and repair workshop in four styles: PS1/textured retro 3D, clean sculptural low-poly, painted storybook 3D, and pixel-textured 3D. Each original 1536×1024 sheet includes a complete environment and six isolated prop groups.

Open `index.html` in Chrome. Everything required by the page lives in this directory; it works directly from a file URL without a server or network dependency. The sheet images are under `assets/`. Keep the directory intact when copying or publishing it.

## Review

Both places are shown by default, grouped by treatment. Filter to one setting to see it larger. Open a sheet for whole-sheet, scene and prop inspection, Fit/2× zoom and the original image. The arrow keys move through visible studies; Escape closes inspection. Compare styles shows two independently chosen treatments of the same setting, including separate scene and prop views. On narrow screens comparisons stack vertically.

Keep/Maybe/Pass and notes are optional and stored in this browser's local storage. Clicking an active mark removes it. Download selections exports all eight states and notes to a text file. The page does not send these marks to Codex; share the downloaded text or describe the choices in the conversation. A mark on the page is not recorded as an owner decision in the iteration ledger until the owner shares it.

## Generation and sources

The built-in image generation tool produced all eight sheets. There are no external game screenshots or third-party visual references in this round. `prompts.json` contains the exact prompt set. The PS1 waterside and workshop sheets were generated from the shared written setting briefs. Each alternate treatment then used the corresponding PS1 sheet as a composition and object-inventory reference, with explicit instructions to replace the style. `generation.json` records the source output and input-reference mapping. Generated originals remain preserved in Codex's generated-images folder; unchanged copies are kept with this artifact.

## What the images establish

These are generated proposals, not rendered meshes or production asset sheets. They demonstrate candidate appearance and composition. The selected direction still needs an actual 3D construction test with inspectable objects and camera movement. No character design or animation is part of the round.

The composition references keep the overall layouts unusually close across the four treatments, but this is not a literal shader comparison on identical geometry. Object shape, surface detail, reflection, small placement and brightness vary. The workshop has a partial return wall on the right; the waterside scene shows the left side of the shop. These differ from details of the initial written brief but are retained consistently across the variants.

The PS1 proposals have busy mottled textures. The clean versions show large facets and some tonal patches, including faceted walls. The painted versions carry more texture detail than a minimal hand-painted game asset would need. The pixel versions are concept interpretations of pixel-textured 3D, not verified texel grids or measured palette restrictions. These observations belong in the selection decision; no proposal is silently treated as accepted.

## Preservation and verification

This is a standalone versioned round. After handover, keep its HTML, scripts, styles, prompts and images unchanged. Revisions belong at a new round path. During a requested later session publication, register the complete frozen runtime directory, not only `index.html`, so the images, scripts and stylesheet travel together.

Browser verification evidence is in `review/verification.json`, with desktop, narrow-screen, comparison and inspection captures alongside it. Checks run in isolated hidden Chrome contexts, separate from the owner's Chrome session and local selections. The reusable verification script is under `C:/Users/a327e/Desktop/tools/codex/checks/environment-round-01.cjs`; it is a support footprint outside this project, not a runtime dependency.
